Exploring Egypt’s remarkable pyramids built thousands of years ago.

     Pyramid Construction

Egyptians built pyramids with a large stone stairway for deceased pharaohs soul to ascend to heaven. Pyramids were thought to represent the suns rays descending down reflecting from miles away. 118 pyramids have been identified in Egypt. Pyramids are architect designed and block built by masons using large labor forces with as many as200,000 slaves. Egyptologist claim that transporting one block weighing one and a half tons required twenty five slaves. Historians claim the time to fully construct a pyramid averaged twenty to thirty years.

The Great Pyramid of Giza, located on the outskirts of Cairo is the oldest and largest pyramid in Egypt. This pyramid was designed and constructed under the supervision of the famous architect Imhotep. The pyramid was built in the fourth dynasty for the Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu. Their are three chambers inside the pyramid, one for the King Pharaoh Khufu, one for the Queen and the other for the descendants. It’s the only standing member as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, completed around 2560 BC. The construction of the pyramid took over 20 yrs. utilizing the manpower of over 100,000 men and stood 455 ft. tall with a approximate total of 2,500,000 cubic meters in volume.

The pyramid is constructed of lime stone block with a base of 706 ft. and the height of 471 ft. the pyramid has two entrances with passages leading to the burial chambers. The pyramid was said to be robbed of its historical valuables in the year 1372.

The pyramid Menkaure, is hte smallest of the three pyramids of Giza being the resting place tomb of the fourth dynasty Pharaoh Menkaure. The pyramid is 204 ft. tall with a base of 365 ft. constructed of limestone and granite giving it an illuminating shine from a distance.

The King Sneferu, built during Pharaoh Sneferu’s reign as King of the fourth   dynasty from 2613 BC to 2589 BC.  Sneferu was famous for his architectural design of three known pyramids; The Bent Pyramid, The Red Pyramid and the Meidum Pyramid.

     Inside the Pyramids

Pyramids are some of the oldest most amazing architectural monumental designs built proving that early man utilized some form of mathematics and organized skills. Thousands of artifacts are available to be viewed at Museums in Cairo containing the most exclusive source of Egyptian artifacts. Their are 27 Pharaoh mummies on display in the Royal Mummy Room. Other artifacts include items from the tombs of the Pharaohs Tuhtmosis III, Tuhtmosis IV, Amenophis II, Hatshepsut, and Maherpen, and many artifacts from the legendary Valley of the Kings. The famous Pharaoh Ramses III, who was an extremely skilled warrior is also viewable on the second floor of the museum.

History is holds amazing wonders giving the sense that man was far more advanced that realized. Such techniques and systems in mathematics and construction were somewhat equivalent to modern gas/electric motorized machinery, but only in a more methodical form.
