Kenya, a Place Where Dreams are Made

Kenya is a country in the East coast of Africa that has an interesting History and culture.
Kenya was a colony of the British until 1963 when it attained its independence. Jomo Kenyatta who had been detained by the British during the struggle for independence was Kenya’s first president. Kenya has since had two other presidents, Daniel Arap Moi the second president and Mwai Kibaki the third and current president.
The struggle for Independence was masterminded by the Mau Mau movement. This is when young Kikuyus got together and swore an oath to fight for their land and Independence to govern themselves. This led to the arrest and torture and killing of many by the British. Kenyatta was among those arrested and detained without trial on the guise that he was a Mau Mau leader.
When Kenya attained Independence under the leadership of Kenyatta, it chose the policy of forgiveness. Kenyatta implored on Kenyans to forgive the colonialist and move on to national building. He welcomed the British who wanted to stay and help in the nation building. Today there are many Europeans who have settled in Kenya and consider it their country. There are also many Asians from India, Pakistan and lately Chinese and Japanese. Apart from the immigrants, Kenya has over 41 indigent ethnic groups.
There is a saying that once you have tested Kenya, you can never really leave it even if you tried. Unfortunately the media only portray the worst of Africa including Kenya. Most people would not be interested in visiting Kenya or most African countries because they assume they will get diseases or they will be attacked because of insecurity. This is unfortunate because the same things that people fear or assume are the same things that are daily encountered in the Western world. How many times does one read of people being shot, even in schools in the USA? Some countries may be rich in one area while others are rich in others.
There are many reasons to visit Kenya or want to know about Kenya. For one it is considered the cradle of mankind. Modern archeology has discovered the remains of man considered to be millions years old in Kenya. Kenya has many beautiful scenery and many cultural places to visit. For an investor, Kenya can prove to be very lucrative as many Americans who have ventured there have discovered. You have hardworking people with good work ethics and labor cost is still manageable.
The government has also put into place mechanism to help the investor succeed by reducing the bureaucratic red tape. Business tax is also manageable and the living conditions are superb. You can chose the kind of lifestyle you want from high class city life to simple village or country life. Traffic maybe an issue but even that is being addressed by construction of the many highways that are coming up.
There are many heroes in Kenya that are working behind the scenes that may not be known. This is what makes Kenya endearing to me. These are people with very little but full of compassion and love that in their meager resources they reach out to their brethren to help out. Off course the media never mention them or any other Africans working behind the scenes to help change the destiny of Africa. All you hear is about Africans being beggars and deserving to be dependant on others.
Joyce a hero in her own right, she ministers to little children some who are HIV positive.
. Another hero is Daniel Nduati, who ministers to former street children and changes their lives in a positive way.
These heroes do what they do because they care for their fellow country people and they do so without judgment or need for glory. They deserve to be recognised for they teach us what love truly is. So on behalf of Kenyans, may I extend my warm welcome to the warm and free land by saying, Karibu.

Very good article. What a blessing for a country to have a leader who encourages his people to forgive their oppressors. I sure that the fact that Kenya has seen fewer uprisings and is more politically stable than the countries around it has been the result of the people coming together and agreeing to forgive and to move on to nation building.
If I ever get a chance to go to Africa, I would certainly want to visit Kenya. I sponsor a girl named Jenipher who lives in Kenya. I would love to meet her.
