Highest Gorge Swing in the World: South Africa

If you are going to ride the highest gorge swing in the world in the Oribi Gorge in South Africa you had better bring your guts and try not to lose them on the way down.

The highest gorge swing in the world is located on a waterfall cliff in the Oribi Gorge in southern KwaZulu-Natal Province about 7 miles from Port Shepstone, South Africa.

The Oribi Gorge swing is just below the top of Lehrs Falls and drops those that are brave enough to try some 300 feet as they swing through the gorge. There is a swing on top of a Chinese TV tower skyscraper (700 feet) and a swing at Shotover Canyon in New Zealand (360 feet) that are higher but maybe not as crazy as this one.

A company called Wild 5 runs the swing and charges about $44 dollars per person to get the thrill ride of your life if you dare.

To get to the swing one must climb down a ladder from the top of the gorge to the ledge the swing is on. The ladder is visible just to the right of the sign in the picture above. Once secured onto the swing line off you go. As the video shows it is not a long ride time wise but probably is heart stopping most of the way down.

Once your done swinging through the gorge the swing line is automatically pulled back to the ledge you started from.

This is definitely not a swing for the faint of heart.
