What You Need to Know Before Going on The Reality Show Survivor
by Brenda Nelson on 23/10/10 at 12:30 am
Many contestants sign up for the reality show “Survivor”, and every season fans are baffled at how unprepared some of these people are. Here is a list of some things a person must learn before they leave their comfortable home to go on Survivor.
How to Make Fire
There are a few ways to make fire, the hardest being by rubbing two different types of wood together (a hard wood, and a soft wood). You will note you cannot just rub any two sticks together to make a fire. Another method that has been used on the show is by using glasses to focus the suns rays on dry coconut husks and small kindling. Of course there is also the method of starting a fire using flint but one still must be able to prepare a site in which to get the fire going.
Facts about Chickens
Typically one of the rewards is a box containing two hens and a rooster. In at least one Survivor show, the first bird killed and eaten, was a hen. Silly Survivors. Hens lay eggs, roosters don’t… and more importantly hens lay eggs even without a rooster. They lay even better when not stressed. The rooster usually will have a bigger tail, he will crow in the mornings, the hens are the ones that lay eggs.
How to Make Friends, Lie, or Influence People
One of the keys to winning is playing a good social game, either by befriending many people, or by manipulating many people. Being anti-social, with drawn, or too nutty, will not get you far. There may be times when you have to lie, and be okay with it.
How to Know when to Be Quiet
One of the biggest problems some people have on this, or other, reality shows, is knowing when to shut up. There have been times when people who were not on the chopping block for eviction have been sent packing as the result of saying way to much in the final moments, as when at tribal council. At other times peoples big mouths have landed them in trouble… complaining too much, demanding too much, scheming too much, arguing too much, and so on. In short if a person is not in a line of fire, they are best to stay out of the way and keep their mouth shut.
It’s Going to be Cold and Wet so Toughen Up
You are going to be wet, cold, hungry, sore, and stabbed in the back. If you cannot deal with this, do not send in an application for the show. Millions of people will be watching you whine and complain about doing something they think would be pretty cool to try to do.. and many of those people will have been rejected from the application process you were accepted on.
Other Good Things to Know
How to read people, how to build a shelter, what is safe to eat, how to fish, and so forth.

I don’t want to go. I will stay in my comfortable home. Reality shows are strange to me.Some of them are so demeaning. Like the ones’s with women or men eliminating choices for a date or relationship. What a low feeling that must be, sent packing on National Television.

B is my wife, we had a good laugh on the recent show Old vs Young when the one tribe killed a hen, leaving the rooster and another hen.. thus they reduced their egg production by half.

I really enjoyed your article. I agree that one of the best things is to know when to be quiet on a reality show. Talking too much could be the first thing that gets a contestant eliminated from a show. I watch a lot of reality shows and there is always someone on the show that refuses to shut up. That person usually leaves first.
