Escape Down Under 2: Price ‘N Pay

Second in the series for your Aussie escape. This will look at how much you will pay. A rough guide in US dollars.
Fly Me There
The best way to get to Australia is to fly there. The majority of the world’s airlines visit the main cities, Melbourne and Sydney, daily.
The Bestest Way to Get There is Fly
The cost of your escapade Down Under from:
- New York
Escaping the Big Apple for Sydney is cheap in July. Reason? It is winter Down Under. This is low season thus airfares are cheap when you escape New York in summer. Bargain, as there is no set price for an escape from New York.
- London
This is known as the Kangaroo Route, as so many Australians travel between Down Under and England. This is the most cost-effective place to get to Australia. A typical, return economy ticket from London is about $US 999.
- Los Angeles
This way of flying to Australia is under $1000 US. It has been known to cost as little as $399, one-way. The cheapest most direct route from the USA.
How Much Is A Hotel Room in Sydney?
It will cost you $US100 for a decent night in Sydney. A backpacker hostel is $US50 or less in winter.
Shop around, Australia has many hotels, many rooms, each begging for you.
How Much Will Chow Cost Me?
The price of a feed also varies. Australian food is excellent. If you want to get Thai Takeaway, it will cost you $US15, for two people. If you want a better restaurant, you will spend $US50, for two. Many Australian restaurants have a B.Y.O. ( Bring Your Own ) alcohol policy with just a small corkage fee.
How Much Will Taxi’s Cost Down Under?
This will cost you more – look at forking out $US30 to get to your hotel from the airport. Also, make sure you keep an eagle eye on the tariff, as many Aussie taxi drivers will take you the round about way and talk you through it.
Can I Use My Credit Card?
You can use your bank card in most automatic teller machines in Australia without a problem. You may be charged conversion fees and other fees. If fees are not a problem, then by all means, use your credit card but check the rules before leaving home.
Will I Have To Pay Tips Down Under?
Tipping is only expected if the service is good. Good Service = Tip. Some places do add a surcharge of ten percent to cover costs on Sundays and on Public Holidays. Tipping is not expected but appreciated for good service.
Currency Conversion Kiss
When you change your American dollars into Australian dollars you will smile. The Australian dollar is worth less, so you will have a lot more cash to splash upon arrival. Like anything, keep your hat on, your head clear and check prices. A decent night out for locals in Sydney, going clubbing and the rest will cost about $US150. When that is converted into Australian dollars you will have $200 or more dollars to frolic with. That’s a very good fun night out!
Inward Bound!
You are probably wondering how much it costs to fly inside Australia. This is great news; an air flight from Sydney to Melbourne will cost you as little as $US35 – online. The prices for travel vary but deals for inland travel will not burn a hole in your pocket. Bargains galore there!
Clean and Fun
Australia is a cheap, clean destination. Things are well priced in the stores, accommodation, wine and food is reasonable. Shop around or go during the low season. Two week on a package deal will cost no more than $US2000.
I hope this rough guide helped. See you on the beach!
