Stanley Trip, Tasmania

by Emerald13 on 09/06/10 at 4:59 pm

A quaint village perched on the edge of the world on the island of Tasmania, a world away from everything.

Having spent the day exploring Latrobe and Sheffield enroute I arrived in Stanley late Friday afternoon for the Anzac weekend. I enjoyed a yummy pumpkin soup and fresh bread for lunch in Sheffield and such interesting shops along the way.

Packed with patrons, dinner of fresh seafood at Sealers Cove Restaurant, in an amiable atmosphere with a constant rumble of voices was most enjoyable.

I stayed at the hotel which was comfortable and clean although, as the weekend progressed I tired of the stairs having returned to my room many times in a day during short forays walking around the area.

Saturday, an overcast, rainy, windy day was spent exploring the beaches and high vantage points around town.

The start to my Sunday was very special waking to the strains of bugle sounds from the Anzac Day ceremony held just outside my window at 5am.

Many will not believe it but I had set my alarm to rise at dawn on both days, positioning myself high above the town (just outside highfield) to capture the sunrise with Sunday being calm, clear and crisp bringing a pink to yellow glow sunrise. The complete opposite to the previous morning.

Having positioned myself pre-dawn for over 2 hours on the hill facing the Nut to capture the sunrise, I headed to a local coffee shop to warm the bones.

As I consider the 750 photos I took, I plan to return to Stanley, maybe in spring.

With the intent to explore my G9 a bit differently than usual I challenged myself to work with manual settings only and pushed many scenes towards the over or under-exposed spectrum.

After many years in Tasmania I never tire of knowing we live in a very beautiful place.    © Gina 2010
