Borneo, Where Gentle Souls Try to Survive

The Malaysian island of Borneo is a wonderful tourist experience with its mixture of rainforest and open clearings in which just a select few luxury resorts have been established. But as man has spread and developed more and more of the rainforest the creatures that make their home there are becoming very much an endangered species.
Take a walk along narrow stone paths through the beautiful landscape gardens of a luxurious vacation resort to the small palm roofed cocktail bar, which sits at the edge of the ocean.
Enjoy a few cocktails served in coconut shells, share a good chat and imagine the idyllic thought of looking out across a sunset lit ocean.
Then, in the sea immediately below your vision of the sunset, watch a large shape of a sea mammal rise full length without hardly disturbing the water surface, it would be a ridgeback whale.

And in the moment of the sunset you would be given a spectacular view of the sun’s orange light shining on the ridgeback whale as it slowly moved in the water.
Tourists can also explore areas of the rainforest and if you are very lucky even take a few pictures of the jungle inhabitants.
There are expeditions that will take you deep into the jungle and part of the way you will travel by jeep, but the remainder of your journey will have to be covered on foot.
In the rainforest you will experience temperatures in the high nineties and the humidity level is also very high.
A local guide will take you through the jungle paths; they have spent most of their life living in the jungle area and know it like the back of their hand.
You will see occasionally large snakes hanging down from the trees and even as you are walking you will glimpse the glistening backs of snakes as they pass across the path at your feet.

The Orang-utans inhabit this part of the dense jungle and they detect if there is any danger to them by the different sounds that they hear. You may well peer into the dark green foliage of the jungle and find yourself looking into the eyes of an Orang-utan.
When you look into their eyes you would swear that the Orang-utan is looking deep into your soul. Orang-utans are gentle creatures that are of no threat to man, they are just trying to survive and take care of there family members.
Unfortunately due to the increase of tree clearing and rapid development in many areas of the rainforest the Orang-utan is becoming now more of an endangered species.
Welcome to Borneo, where gentle souls try to survive.
