A brief introduction to China. It explains some of the distinctive features and some of the most popular locations in China.

China is the most populated country in the world. It is also the second largest country in the world after Russia. China’s population is expected to rise to nearly 1.4 billion in late 2010. China’s capital city is Beijing. The coordinates for Beijing are 39.54°n, 116.26°e. Beijing is located towards the east of China. China’s area measures 9598094km2. It’s largest mountain is Mt. Zhumulangma known as Mt Everest to us. There are two long rivers that run in China. The Yangtze River is the longest in China. The second longest is the Huang river. These two rivers were joined by a series of small canals. The canals were later rebuilt. They were made wider and deeper. This is now known as the Grand Canal. The most famous tourist attraction in China is the Great Wall. It was built by many of the empires of China for their own defensive needs. All the walls were joined together at a later time to form the Great Wall of China. In Australia and America we use dollars. We represent it with ‘$’ sign. In China they use yuan pronounced ‘yen’. The Chinese represent yuan with a ‘Y’. The lowest point in China is the Turfan Depression. It is also known as the Oasis of Fire. It is the hottest location in China as well. Highest land mass in China is the Plateau of Tibet. Here are some of the most popular places in China. The Royal Warriors Site is located outside the tomb of China’s first emperor. It is a series of thousands of life-size terracotta warriors, horses and chariots, all in perfect order.  The Panda Reserve is one of the 13 largest nature reserves design to protect the Giant Panda from extinction. Pandas used to be all over the mountainous terrains but now there are less than 1000 of them left. Mount Taishan is a mountain rising from the Shandung Plain and is considered a symbol of heaven by some people. The mountain site includes forests, waterfalls, temples and stone inscriptions. The Grand Canal was first built as a series of small canals joining the Yangtze and the Huang rivers. The canals were eventually widened and deepened and became known as the Grand Canal. The Great Wall of China is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. It is a series of walls built by separate parts of China for its own defensive needs. The walls eventually became known as the Great Wall.
