China is the fastest growing major economy in the world.

China, the third/fourth largest country in the world in term of land area, is the world’s most populous state with over 1.3 billion people. China is the largest exporter in the world and the second largest importer.

The Three Gorges Dam is a hydroelectric river dam that spans the Yangtze River in Hubei, China is the largest hydroelectric power plant and the largest electricity-generating plant of any kind in the world. The construction of the dam started in 1994 and will be operational in 2011. The construction cost of this dam with over 18,300 MW of total capacity (expected to reach 22,500 MW) is $26 billion. Its reservoir has a surface capacity of 1,045 km2.

 The Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China with 440,000 m² is the world’s largest city square. This large plaza is located near the center of Beijing, China’s capital Tiananmen literally means “Gate of Heavenly Peace”.

China has the longest high-speed rail system in the world, with over 6,500km or 4,000 miles of routes in service. China Railway High-speed or CHR is the high-speed rail system operated by China Railways.

Grand Canal – Longest Canal/Artificial River

The world’s longest canal or artificial river with a length of 1,776 km is the Grand Canal in China. The canal starts in Beijing and traverses 4 provinces and ends in Hangzhou City. It is also known as the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. This artificial river’s size and grandeur won the admiration of many all throughout history.

Great Wall – Longest Wall/Fortress

The Great Wall of China, regarded as one of the ‘wonders of medieval world’, has a total length of 8,851.8 km. This is made up of 6,259.6 km of sections of actual wall, 359.7 km of trenches and 2,232.5 km of natural defensive barriers such as hills and rivers. It was built originally to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire against intrusions by various nomadic groups.
