Imagine life without colors. It would be dull and sad. Well, to celebrate colors there is a festival in Indian called Holi.

Have you every played with colors? To some it is the most fun thing that a person can ever do in life. Imagine playing the paintball game but only on a grander scale, not including one or two city blocks but a scale as grand as the entire city. Everyone enjoying playing with colors; young, old, children with their parents and grandparents, even strangers don’t mind if someone applies color to them. Such is the festival of Holi that is celebrated throughout Indian in the month of March with the onset of spring.

Holi has different meanings to everyone. It has a cultural, mythological and a social aspect to it. To some it represents the power of truth and the victory of good over evil because of the story associated with this festival of an evil king and his son named Prahlad. It is said that once there was a king who believed that he was God but his son did not think so as he was a devotee of lord Vishnu. This annoyed the evil king and he ordered that his own son be killed. Despite many attempts the son was saved. Later the king asked his sister Holika (who was immune to fire) to take his son and sit on fire. But by the grace of Lord Vishnu Prahlad was saved and Holika was burnt. That’s how the story goes.

Whatever the mythological aspect of this festival is, to us it is just a time to get colored and color others and have a load of fun.
