Five Best Places to Visit When in Bangalore

Known as The Garden City and Air Conditioned City, Bangalore is the hub of IT Industry in India. The cosmopolitan culture, excellent weather conditions, and an intellectual work force make Bangalore a city most sought after. There a few other major attractions in Bangalore which make this city envious.

Reported as the Fastest growing City in Asia, Bangalore is also the Call Centre Capital of the World. Intricately positioned in the Sub continent and placed at 3000 ft above MSL, Bangalore has a salubrious climate throughout the year. Once called a ‘Pensioners paradise’, now the City has undergone urbanisation at a tremendous pace, more so in the last two decades. Bangalore has strived to retain its greenery and the landmark lung spaces within, in the midst of a Concrete jungle.

There are several places of interest in and around the City exhibiting the Celebration of Nature and some landmark structures. However, the top five ‘must see’ places are as follows: aesthetically

Lalbagh Botanical Gardens – Spread over an area of about 40 acres, this green patch in the heart of the City, was established in the late 18th Century by a Ruler by name Hyder Ali. It houses more than 1850 different species of tree wealth, maintained by the local Government. It also has a sprawling lake within. Today Lalbagh is a Horticultural Centre dispersing knowledge to farmers about Horticulture crops and assisting them in Marketing their ware.

Vidhana Soudha – This is a splendid Granite building, housing the Legislative Assembly and Secretariat. It stands majestically opposite the Cubbon Park, another large park with plentiful greenery. The Vidhana Soudha is illuminated on special days and is a glorious sight in the evening. A stroll around this structure in the evening is memorable. Add some flavour to the evening by savouring some interesting roadside snacks available.

The Bull Temple – Built by Kempe Gowda, one of the founding fathers of Bangalore, this magnificent stone Bull stands 15′ tall and hosts the annual Groundnut festival during November/ December. The Dodda Ganapathi temple, for the Elephant faced God, is located adjacent to the Bull Temple. This huge granite idol of the Lord is believed to be very powerful.

Sankey Tank – This is a small lake in the heart of the City surrounded by greenery on all sides and is place for relaxing with facilities for stroll and boating. The serene surrounding is a good place to relax and have a calm evening.

M.G Road – Located in the Cantonment area, this is the main shopping hub with many big label stores. The adjacent streets like Brigade Road and Church Street has a bustling crowd throughout the day known for shopping, multicusine restaurants, Cafe and Pubs. One can find retail stores selling some exquisite Silks, for which Bangalore is the home, making it a shopper’s paradise.

There are several other interesting places to visit around Bangalore like Bannerghatta National Park, Nandi Hills ( a hill station), Jakkur lake, Meke datu, Savandurga, Pearl valley, Mysore, Channapatna (famous for the soft wooden  toys) and several other jaunting places.

Bangalore also boasts of its rich IT skills, the famous Tata Institute, IIM which is one of the top Management Institutes and several traditional industries manufacturing machine tools, Aircrafts, spares etc.

It is a real treat to see the beautiful avenue tress in full bloom during Spring studded in between some lush green greenery. There is a lot to be explored for the adventurer, around Bangalore and is worth a visit.
