Kunjarugiri Devi Temple is a famous tourist place.

The Mahishamardini Temple on the Kunjaru Hills is about 10km from Udupi.

The Durga temple is located on top of a hill, which is also known as Durga Betta.

It is also called ‘Kunjaragiri’ because from a distance it looks like an elephant.

This temple is said to have been established by Parashurama.
The Goddess Durga is seen to be holding Mahishasura on the edge of her trident.

According to Sudhanva Vijaya (authored by Narayana Pandithacharya) and Theertha Prabandha (Vadiraja Theertha), Goddess Durga of Kunjalu played a leading role in the  killing of  Kamsa and helped Lord Krishna in his task of protecting the world from evil forces.
