This concluding part of the ooty Tourism series reports on the Annual Dog Show and the Annual Boat Race and Boat Pageant held at Ooty Lake. It also guides you about tourists locations like Pykara Falls, Pykara Lake, Doddabetta Peak, Echo Rock, Hidden Valley and Shooting Point.

Dog Show

The South of India Kennel Club organized its 106th and 107th Championship dog show between 13th and 15th May 2011 at Ooty and this show witnessed significant number of India breeds.

Cultural Events and Photo Exhibition

The District Administration also organized dance, drama and musical events at the Breeks Open Air Stadium, Ooty between 8th and 23rd May 2011. The Department of Horticulture is also hosting a photo exhibition was also held between May 14 and May 23, 2011 at the Horticulture Complex , Ooty.

Pykara Falls, Pykara Dam and Pykara Lake.

Pykara waterfalls are located 19 km away from Ooty and lies on the Ooty to Bangalore route. This waterfall originates from the Mukurthi peak and drops down as a series of cascades. The Pykara River is intercepted by the Pykara Dam. The power plant located at Pykara is the highest power plant in Asia. Pleasure boating on the Pykara lake is the pleasant experience and very much loved by the visitors.

Doddabetta Peak, Echo Rock, Hidden Valley and Shooting Point

Your trip to Ooty will not be complete without your visit to panoramic view-points such as the Doddabetta peak (highest view point, Nilgiri district), Echo Rock, Hidden Valley and Shooting Point. All these view-points also provide scope for trekking and the trekkers can enjoy their trip to Ooty.

How to Reach Ooty?

The nearest airport is at Coimbatore. You may able to access Ooty by road. Ooty is 105 km away from Coimbatore; 160 km away from Mysore; 290 km away from Bengalooru; 187 km away from Calicut; 281 km away from Cochin. The roads well maintained and you will get frequent bus facilities to reach Ooty.

Mettupalayam is the nearest railway station and this place is 47 km away from Ooty. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway runs a toy train between Mettupalayam and Ooty. The train will start at Mettupalayam exactly at 07.10 am and could accommodate only fewer passengers.  So make sure to book your tickets in advance to enjoy your onward and return journey via the scenic train route.
