Varanasi: The City of Temples

An exclusive fusion of sound including the twittering of birds, the sound of bells coming from nearest temples, the chanting of mantras by a Hindu during taking a deep in the sacred river Ganges and very smoky atmosphere of the early hours of a morning – this is the most common visual of the ghats of the most religious city in India, Varanasi. The visual experience of a number of people taking bath along with their early rituals believing that they will be free from the circle of rebirth is unique and can only found in this city. The city possesses an extra ordinary characteristic of its own.

The city is one of the most visited places and that is the reason for its good connection with different parts of India by air, rail and road. The Babatpur airport is 25km away from the city and a regular air service is available from the major cities and all major domestic Indian carriers operate from here. Varansi is also renowned for its communication by road. The two railway stations, the Kashi Junction and the Varanasi are connected with major cities and almost all the super fast trains pass through the city. Mughalsarai is another important junction just 10km south from Varanasi. Best Western Kashika Hotel, Hotel Clarks, Hindustan International Hotel are the top three hotels of the city.

Varanasi is the city of temples. Numerous temples and a number of holy ghats at the bank of the river Ganges mark the city. The city spreads the fragrance of ancient India. Till today the city has an existence of its own kind. Benaras Hindu University is most acknowledged one in India. It has a land of 1350 acres for the construction of its campus. Students from all over the world come here to take admission in this oldest University of India.Within the boundary of the university, Bharat Mata Mnadir is dedicated to the human manifestation. It was inaugurated by Mahtma Gandhi. The university is situated at the heart of the city and auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are very much available to reach the destination.

Kashi Vishwanatha Temple or the golden temple is situated on the outskirts of the Ganges. The greatness of the city as the religious place entirely rises around this holy temple. It is said that one single view of Vishwanatha Jyotirlinga is enough to come out of all sins. The temple opens at 2.30 am for mangal aarati and general darshan schedule is between 12 noo to 7pm.

Sarnath is another tourist attraction and it is situated 10km away from the city. It is the place where Lord Budhha chose to deliver his first sermon. ” Budhham Saranam Gachami” has its origin in this place. 

Though Sankat Mochan Temple do not possess a much historical importance in comparison to the other temples, but it is very much popular as a number of devotees stand on the queue for Lord Hanuman.

Varanasi is situated at the bank of river Ganges. The river is flowing through one side of the city creating a number of holy ghats. Varanasi is charcterised by its ghats.They are the most interesting place to study different characters and their actions. They present a unique combination of physical, Meta physical and supernatural elements. Among all the divine ghats, Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most popular ans it is the closest to the “Vishwanatha temple”. Apart from all these attractions there are a number of other temples and ghat to explore the colour pf ancient India.Nobody can come back from the city without shopping. The city is the center of handicraft. Silk weaving of the city is famous to the world. The city is also famous for its juicy mangoes. Betel leaf is another exotic pleasure of the city. A number of different musical instruments like sitar, Tabla etc are designed in the city. Its an experience itself to be in the city.One must visit the city to take a study of the culture and to explode the smell of the ancient India.
