Magical Hues of Nature in the Sacred Heart of Bali

Shrouded in myth and legend, it is an exaggeration to cal Bali "divinely designated". Here, I become weak in the presence of celestial beauty.

Like the lost relic of some advanced civilization, a resort emerges from mountain mists. In the sacred heart of Bali lies the Ayung River Valley, where verdant rice terraces and cascading water gardens share the jungle with ancient shrines, brilliant heliconias and banyan trees. Amidst all this beauty lies the simplicity of Bali at Sayan, a Four Seasons resort.

To enter the resort, guests cross a rushing gorge via a solid teak bridge which leads to an elliptical lotus pond measuring 9,170 square feet. Offering an impressive view of the valley, the staircase descends to the reception area, he Jati Bar and further downwards to the Ayung terrace restaurant. 18 suites are ideally located in the central building, and 42 villas are free standing with spacious gardens. Each villa are comprises a private plunge pool, and the villas are spread throughout the resort grounds: some along the river bank, others on the rolling hillside surrounded by rice fields and eight of the crest of the hill, all affording imposing views.

The rustically coarse, yet majestic tropical jungle appears unperturbed as you fathom its dense foliage and what goes on behind it. You’ll become engulfed by the exuberant tropical sent of soil, flowers, fruits and warm air.
The opportunity to design the Bali at Sayan was a career challenge John Heah refused to let pass. The Cambridge-educated architect cites Italian Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978), who, along with Frank Lloyd Wright, shared a passion for juxtaposing natural and man-made materials, as one greatest influences.

The spa uses sea-salt crystals, seaweed and aromatics with water in the all-natural treatments. The Balinese massage has been handed down through generations. The techniques of skin rolling, kneading strokes, acupressure and foot massage are believe to renew, strengthen and heal the body. The Bali Santi, an infused coconut oil blended with essential oils of basil, vetiver and patcouli, is used for this traditional treatments in the privacy of your villa, and rest assure you’re in good hands.
