Short Visit to Sarangan Lake

Share with you scenery of a lake in a tropical country.
Sarangan Lake is located at Mount Lawu feet, East Java, Indonesia. It is not far from the place I live in, however I have never gone there before. Recently when my neighbours had a plan to visit the lake, I decided to go with them. The lake is about 1,600 meters above sea level. During my journey to the lake, I saw fantastic scenery of rice and corn fields. However, I was quite disappointed since the scenery of the lake is not as fantastic and beautiful as the scenery I saw in my journey there. It was a regret I didn’t take photos of the beautiful scenery during my journey.

However, the tourists can enjoy the nature scenery at this lake. At an altitude of 1,287 meters, the evening is chilly.

The width of Sarangan Lake is 75 hectares with depth 28 meters, and it has cold air with temperature 18-25 C. The climate around is cool and comfortable, hence appropriate for recreations.

There are various facilities in this area, such as: hotel, restaurants, paddle canoe, playground and horses, which has supplied for the tourists from various regions of Indonesia. As a tourist destination, Sarangan Lake has been known since the Dutch time. Here the high-ranking Dutch officials often spent their weekends. It is not surprising that around the lake, villas of European architecture can still be found. There are also many cheap hotels there even for domestic standards. In addition, the facilities are quite good.

In the past, Sarangan Lake was better known as Sand Lake, since during the dry season the water has dried up, showing only a huge stretch of sand. On the other hand, during the rainy season, water would fill up the entire are of the lake. To circle along and enjoy the 75 hectares lake, tourist can use motorboats for have a trip. Apart from that, there are “water ducks” and horses that will readily take you to the other tourism destinations around Sarangan lake, such as; Tirtosari and Sarangsari waterfalls, both waterfalls are still natural and very attractive. It only 2 or 3 kilometres from the lake.

The Tourism Market that sells various souvenir, plant, typical food, fruit like strawberry, vegetable and clothes. There are also circumference food seller like satay (there is also rabbit satay), corn and boiled peanut. Sarangan Lake has remained natural and interesting to visit.
