Magical tour to Singkawang in Indonesia.

Singkawang is a beautiful city located in Indonesia about 145 km north of Pontianak. It is a lovely city and is a hot tourist destination. It is rightly referred to as “The city of thousand temples” as there are temples scattered everywhere in the city. The temples are mostly of ancient Chinese Gods and Goddesses and offer an exotic location for religious travelers wanting to enjoy the vacation simultaneously. For tourists it offers a perfect holiday location due to it’s rich culture and friendly environment.

As it is inhabited by various different ethnic groups, the city offers a wide variety of food which goes on to show it’s diverse and rich culture. The restaurants offer the tourists brilliant food with exotic ambience and at prices which are not hard on the pockets. The hotels are easy to find as the city is basically a tourist based location. One can pull out amazing deals at cheap prices.

The city is also known as “Little China” or “Small China” because it reflects ancient Chinese culture in it’s true sense. The population consists of mostly Chinese people and therefore one can find Singkawang to be very similar to China.

A much important tourist spot in Singkawang is Pasir Panjang Beach. It is a perfect tourist destination to relax on a sunny evening and an excellent location for forgetting all the work and worldly tensions. One can lie down on the beach watching the sunset and forget about all the things that drive us away from natural beauty. Another location of prime importance is The Honk Kong market. It offers all kinds of goods and souvenirs at such a nominal price that an average American can shout out loud “Man that’s dirt cheap”. It is a perfect location for buying the souvenirs for friends and family.

The city also has an interesting night life. When the sun sets, small stalls sell local delicacies served with all the love in the world. The local people are very friendly and they treat the tourists very well.

In a nutshell, Singkawang is an exotic location for tourists and one should definitely visit this cultural and friendly city to enjoy a vacation which will be memorable for his/her entire life.

Its population is about 170,000 residents, of which 45% are Chinese descent, 29% are Melayu, 9% Dayak, 10% Madurese,7% are Batak, Javanese and other ethnicity.

Besides the national language, Indonesia, the Chinese dialect of Hakka is commonly used by the general population, including the non-Chinese ethnic groups. Each of the larger groups, such as Melayu and Dayak, use their own dialects, so an average educated person speaks three languages.

The distribution of the religion practically follows the distribution of the ethnic groups; the largest groups are Buddhist, Confusius, Protestant, Islam and Catholics.
