Top Six Places to Go in Israel

The best tourist attractions and tourist sites in Israel can be found in these cities.

  1. Jerusalem without question is one of the most beautiful and mystical cities in the world. I am referring to the Old City. Even if you give the rest of Jerusalem a miss the Old City should be thoroughly explored. Don’t miss Temple Mount, the Wailing Wall, the market in the Arab quarter and the exquisite Christian and Armenian churches. The Old City can be seen in a day, or even half a day, but to see all of Jerusalem you will need at least another day.

  2. The Sea of Galilee, once again I am covering quite a large area under one point of interest as it can be seen in a day. Start with Tiberius and have a fish meal on the water’s edge, then drive around the sea stopping at the various interesting spots. All the interesting tourist points are sign posted with brown signs and you can circle the Sea in a day easily even with many stops.
  3. Haifa. There are various attractions in Haifa, but the most eye catching and famous is the Bahi gardens, be sure to take your time seeing these exquisite gardens. If you have children try to fit in the Haifa Science Museum, for lots of interactive fun.
  4. Tel Aviv is especially good to see the modern side of Israel, go to the beach, do your shopping both in the fancy Dizengoff shopping district and in the Carmel market, and see some of the night life at the end of your day. Don’t miss Tel Aviv’s partner Jaffa, the ancient port in Tel Aviv which is reminiscent of Jerusalem with it’s stone buildings. Especially in Jaffa see the market and have a meal at Aladdin’s cave, a restaurant which hangs over the port from on high giving you a panoramic view of the Tel Aviv coast line.
  5. The Old Town in Akko/Acre is a beautiful port and Old Town constructed of stone. Walk along the sea walls, enjoy the Arab market and see the Jessar Pasha Mosque and the ancient citadel. As with all Israeli Old Towns the beauty is in the fact that the cities are still lived in. The complex history of Akko includes periods of Arab, British and Jewish rule.
  6. Eilat has to be the most beautiful city in Israeli after Jerusalem. It is on the Red Sea, and surrounded by mountains. You can enjoy the water sports, and snorkel or dive with the tropical fish. Don’t miss the dolphin reef and a fish dinner at the Denis Kingdom restaurant.

Israeli is small so there is little time needed for traveling from place to place, you could see all these locations in about 8 days.
