Maldives: Savor the Most Incredible Waters on Earth

To completely submerge oneself in crystal-clear water spells indulgence—total.

In Maldives, you’re at one with the horizon. You’ll see the point where the horizon and the waters meet. Never has the vast expanse of infinity, of clouds, sky, water, and nature’s wonders been so near, yet so far. In aloof disregard for the pressures of life, sit and watch the waves, and when the sun sets, the sun is glorious with brilliant lustre. A divine hand carves the rays resplendently on a palette of purple, orange, gold and red.

If daily contact with man-mad entities jar your nerves, deep your feet into the cool, crystal-clear waters. Be carried away with the sea breeze. You come to the Maldives to relax, unwind and savour the most incredible waters on earth. This is not a cultural journey like Bali or Chiang Mai; it is a simple island lover’s dream.

And at Kuda Huraa, one of 1,190 cast away isles, it may not get any better. From the air it looks like an artist flooded his canvas with hundreds of tiny coral reefs comprised of soft white powdered sugar atolls surrounded by turquoise-hued liquid pools. While most islands have their own spas, the spa here has its own island.

Guests at Kuda Huraa begin their serene journey to The Island Spa on a dhoni (traditional Maldivian wooden boat) bound for Hura Fundhu. The gentle rocking of the boat, as it cruises across the waters, soothes spa enthusiasts as warm balmy breezes softly caress them. The open-air facility features dramatic oceanic blue tones that imbue the reception area and beauty salon with sense of harmony. Arriving by the dhoni at the spa jetty, guests walk along a wooden deck edged by thick rope rails to the lounge pavilion.

Beneath the tent of the reception area, guests can select from Ayurvedic, Maldivian, Thai and Indonesian Body Elixirs, Skin Scrubs, Massages, Body Wraps, Facials and Salon treatments. Innovative treatments play tribute to the nutrient-rich ocean celebrating the restorative power of marine elements.

Perched at the edge of the private island’s white sandy beach and atop the ocean are five thatched-roof treatment pavilions designed with couples in mind. Pavilion three features a special overhead shower fixture. This treatment called Maldivian Monsoon Ritual, features an over-the-body shower bar with seven shower-heads positioned above the massage beds. Couples lies face down as pulsating water streams forth simulating the relaxing sensation of ‘raindrops’ caressing the body. The therapist can control the temperature and direction of the water streams.

The aim to immerse the guest into an experience that stimulates all the sense. Stylish, comfortable interiors and exteriors are enhanced by indigenous treatments that excite one’s auditory, olfactory and tactile senses. From the scented aromatic burners filled with rich essential oils wafting through the air, soft cotton robes, slippers and sarongs with locally-influenced designs to blended oils and treatment presentations of fresh flowers, exotic spices and herbs, one immediately knows time has been spent to create this seamless escape.

The Island Spa is a celebration of its beautiful aquatic location and the rich healing traditions of the surrounding lands and people. They have talented staff comprised of male and female Maldivians, Sri Lankans, Thai, Balinese, Australians and Filipinos.

Service is amiable and attentive.
