Sindhi Culture Day in My School

by aisha jamal on 19/11/11 at 7:06 am

Sindh is a state in Pakistan and we celebrate it`s culture day in the month of Nov or DEC, by wearing Sindhi traditional topi (cap) and a very traditional "ajrak"( a scarf with special print on it which is very common and famous in Sindh.

On 19Th of Nov the sindh sakafat (sindh culture ) day was celebrated throughout the sindh state.
There is no basic history of this day, government just started it from last three years  as to keep their new generation connected with their culture !
The day is celebrated by wearing a traditional  ”Ajrak” which is a scarf particularly of red, maroon, black colours.
A traditional topi (cap) accompanies it while Sindhi (language) songs are sang and heard everywhere and most commonly you will find people dancing  a special kind of dance on the folk songs. Which is personally my favourite part of the day.

Although it’s been celebrated from last three years but owing to some reason I was away from the town and my state (sindh) so I was the only unlucky one to be left out of all celebrations but this year fortunately I was in my state and enjoyed alot ! I must say, the real enjoyment was in the enthusiasm by which people were celebrating it!
luckily , this year for the first time it was celebrated in my school officially and I just loved it. It gave such a great feeling , watching every teacher wearing “shalwar kamez” with ajrak and topi .

Apart from the teachers the student of primary sections were just looking amazing ! little angels wearing the ajrak which was even bigger than their size looked so cute .
I too wore ajrak and danced along my schoolmates! I just loved the Sindhi dance, although I was not able to perform it perfectly but still was able to learn a bit and do it with my friends.

The best part of the day was that everyone was dressed up with a unique ornament which doubled the excitement and happiness of the day as everyone was having a wide smile on their face which gave me the opportunity to wider mine a bit more. :)
