Perhentian Islands (locally known Pulau Perhentian) is the term used to define the beautiful twin islands called Big Perhentian and Small Perhentian (locally known as Perhentian Besar and Perhentian Kecil, respectively). If we want to pronounce the name of those islands in English, we can call it “Stopping Point Islands”. Both of them offer beautiful natural sceneries, fresh air, groups of amazing coral reefs inhabited by numerous colorful tropical marine fish and sea turtles, and fresh tropical climate – whoops! not to forget the nearest islands there also, Redang Island as well as Kapas Island.

The only difference between Perhentian Kecil offers cheaper accommodation so more travelers are attracted to go there especially for backpackers while Perhentian Besar offers a little more expensive services. No one is really sure why but usually families who are having holiday with their children; choose to spend their vacation in Perhentian Besar.

Compared to Redang Island and Kapas Island which are located quite near to Terengganu, Malaysia; Perhentian Islands are located quite far away from Terengganu and it is more cloistered. That is why Perhentian Islands are less crowded and less commercialized than islands like Redang Island and Kapas Island. From Terengganu, it will take you approximately one or one and a half hour to reach Kuala Besut harbor. And from Kuala Besut harbor, it will take you another 30 – 45 minutes to reach Perhentian Islands.

Tips for you: The most beautiful moments for you to enjoy your vacation in Perhentian Islands, is during the day when the sea waves sound like buzzing bees. During this time, you may feel the freshness of the air and the beauty of white sandy beaches. However, you should reconsider your schedule again and again before visiting Perhentian Islands because as you all know, Perhentian Islands are located off the east coast of Malaysia and like the other islands in the eastern coast of Malaysia, there is a northeast monsoon which usually occurs between November and February. During this period, almost all the accommodations in Perhentian Islands are very limited so it is not recommended for you to visit Perhentian Islands during that period of time.
