Cebu, Philippines: Your Home Away From Home

A mini field guide for tourists and visitors in Cebu City and neighboring island.
Cebu City is well known for its cultural as well as modern attractions. With an area of 5,088.4 square kilometers, Cebu has the 2nd largest are next Negros Oriental. It has rugged mountains and narrow plains since Cebu is a narrow strip of land.
Cebu City is the oldest city in the Philippines and formerly the capital city of the country which makes it rich in cultural attractions. Here are the main cultural attractions you might want to visit.
· Magellan’s Cross- the preserved cross planted by Ferdinand Magellan when he discovered the Philippines. Currently there is a small kiosk built for the cross which is located at downtown Cebu City across the Cebu City hall.
· Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino- One of the oldest churches in the Philippines and home to the original image of Santo Nino de Cebu who was brought by the Spaniards during the 16th century. The church also has a museum with its full history and some artifacts.
· Fort San Pedro- One of the forts of the Spaniards in the Philippines. You can view an old fort with canons and prisons and some firearms and clothes during the Spanish era in the Philippines.
Cebu City is also home to some modern attractions like:
· Edge Coaster and Sky Walk- At the top of the Crown Regency Tower and at the building’s edge lies an edge roller coaster that overlooks the entire city. The Edge Coaster is the 1st in the world. You have another option to move around the edge of the 37th floor of the building: to walk. Sky Walk allows you to walk around the building stepping on glass that when you look down you’ll go dizzy. The Sky Walk is 2nd in the world next to the one in Las Vegas. All rides are complete with safety equipment.
· 4D Theater- Still located at the Crown Regency Tower. The theatre offers a complete 4D experience but only for 10 minutes. This is the first 4D Theater in Cebu.
· Zoomer Mini Golf- A mini golf course with nine holes but unlike any other, the course uses black light which makes everything glow from the course to the club and ball and even your face. Not only that, the course features different themes: underwater, mummy encounter and pirate adventure and is equipped with electronics which makes the game more exciting. It is located at the 3rd floor Mango Square Mall, Gen. Maxilom Ave., Cebu City.
Cebu City’s neighboring island: Mactan Island is the number 1 summer destination in the entire region. Mactan Island has first class and international resorts and hotels like Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Hilton Resort and many more. Mactan island has fine sand beaches and wonderful underwater view. Water and beach activities are the most fun things to do on the island like scuba diving, boating, surfing and many more.
If you want to enjoy the city, Cebu City is filled with hotels like Waterfront Hotel, Parklane International hotel, Marriot hotel and many more. If shopping is what you love then Cebu City is the next shopping destination in the country next to Metro Manila. SM City Cebu, the world’s 11th largest shopping mall is there to serve you.
