Secret Haven

It is an account of my travel to Glan, Sarangani Province. A haven at the tip of Mindanao.

It was on the last week of November 2008 when my friends and I had a three-day expedition to a nice beach resort. The trip we had is a very nice experience for me. Indeed, we live in a world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure, and there is no end to it. The beauty of God’s creation is just seen over the horizon of Glan, Sarangani Province.

Sarangani Province is the so-called, “The little paradise at the southern tip of Mindanao”. It is about 56 kilometers away from General Santos City, which is the major urban city of the province. It has a town named as Glan, which is the first class municipality in the province, and they call it, “The tourism capital of Sarangani.” As we traveled to Glan, we saw the breathtaking mountains and seaside vista. It is located at the southernmost part of Sarangani Province. It has an open sea that connects to Celebes or the China Sea. The place has a mild and pleasant weather climate. It is a progressive and peaceful town which has known as the coconut town. In fact when we where there, we had joined in there “lubi-lubi” festival. Tourist sites are abundant in the municipality such as white sand beaches, caves, diving sites, waterfalls and a lake.

We stayed in the beach of Gumasa, Glan, Sarangani Province. It has a virgin beach and there were only few people who knew about the haven. In fact, in our first night, we were the only group of people who were there. The resort was solemn, and it was very good for relaxation. The white sand was pure and fine. The seawater was very refreshing as I bathed into it at daytime and even at night time. In the morning, wherein the seawater was very clear, we had seen lots of coral reefs. There were different species of starfish, of different sizes and colors— in brown, blue, orange, etc. It seemed like a little Boracay, or let me say, the next top tourist destination. Yet, I didn’t want it to be fully-commercialized like Boracay because I love the fact that it was undiscovered and only few people went there. Indeed, it’s a beautiful haven for recreation and a secret destination that is far from the rural area and it should be treated as a fragile virgin.

Our trip was indeed a blessed experience. My friends and I were marveled to see God’s very precious creations even in secrecy. I was blessed that he had poured out beauty even at the tip of our land, Mindanao. The trip had energized me, and I enjoyed every moment I had. The joy of exploring God’s abundant creation, and the pleasure and happiness it has given me is priceless.

These are the memories of a haven’s trip that are worth to be reminisced for.
