Travel to Bangkok

The beautiful places I visited in Bangkok in March of 2009. It was quite an experience to share.

BANGKOK ATTRACTIONS:

These are famous places you may find in Bangkok like temples and museum. I was privilege to have visited Thailand last March 28, 2009 with friends, classmates, and an office mate at the same time. We really had such a wonderful time while in Bangkok.

Below is the picture of me at the Baiyoke Suite Hotel where we all stayed during 1 week visit to Thailand. Such a wonderful place to be with as it is located to Bangkok’s most cheapest shopping area. The hotel accommodation is just great and the standard rooms are huge.

Below are the attractions you may find in Bangkok. These are just among the many famous places in Bangkok.

Temple of the Emerald Buddha
An exquisite, sparkling structure with golden stupas. It houses the Kingdom’s most holy relic, the Emerald Buddha. Located with in the Grand Palace compound, the temple was built in 1782, the year Bangkok became the country’s capital. Made from jade, the 75-centimeter-tall Emerald Buddha is dressed in golden robe replaced yearly by His Majesty the King during a special ceremony.

Erawan Shrine
This popular shrine, built in honor of Brahma (Phra Prom in Thai), the Hindu god of creation, draws devotees daily from every corner of the globe seeking blessings and good fortunes through dances, incense-burning and floral offerings.

Wat Arun – Temple of Dawn
One of the more famous temples in Bangkok, it is found across the Chao Phraya River from Wat Po. Its towering Khmer-style pagoda is a mosaic of colorful Chinese porcelain, making the temple glow at sunset. Built during the Ayutthaya era, it got its name after a dawn visit by King Rama I.

Vimanmek Mansion
Built in 1901 as the royal residence of King Rama IV, it is the largest golden teak structure in the world. Now a museum for royal memorabilia, this three-story, L-shaped building has 81 rooms and halls.

Wat Benchama Bophit – Marble Temple
Built in 1901 during the reign of King Rama V, this differs from other Buddhist temples of the time because of its European ecclesiastic design. It is primarily made of Carrara marble from Italy.

Royal Barge Museum
This museum houses a fleet of royal barges used occasionally for special ceremonious on the Chao Phrya River by His Majesty the King or other members of the royal family. The barges are long and ornately decorated.

Wat Trimit – Temple of the Golden Buddha
Home to the largest solid gold Buddha image in the world weighing more than five tons the temple is located near Chinatown (Yaowarat). It is one of Bangkok’s top tourist attractions.

Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall Museum
Now the Kingdoms first handicrafts museum, this one-story teak building was built to serve as a throne hall during the time of King Rama V.

Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall
Another throne hall built during the later years of King Rama V, this two-story structure has opulent Italian Renaissance and Neo Classic architecture. Its rich marble exterior was imported from Carrara Italy.

City Pillar Shrine
Erected to mark the founding of Bangkok more than two centuries ago, the wooden pillar draws a daily flock of devotees in colorful costumes who come to present offerings and perform dance rituals. The shrine is covered daily with thick smoke from burning scented joss sticks, while Thai music plays in the background.

Wat Po – Temple of Reclining Buddha
Behind me is the Reclining Buddha. Home to the famous Reclining Buddha. It is one of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok. It is also a training center for Thai massage and traditional medicine.

Grand Palace
Located next to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Thailand’s most majestic and recognizable landmark used to be the main residence of precious monarchs. With the current monarch choosing to live at Chitlada Palace on Sri Ayutthaya Road, it has become a regular venue for important state and religious functions.
