Things to Do in Osaka, Japan in The Summer

by SharifaMcFarlane on 10/11/10 at 5:57 am

Osaka, Japan is a great place to visit in summer. If you plan on experiencing an Osaka summer someday, here are some Japanese tourist attractions you will enjoy.

Summer is a great time for traveling to Japan. For Japanese who live in one region of Japan, summer is also a good time to visit other regions of Japan at a slightly lower cost via the JR train.

Osaka is located in the Kansai region of Japan. Although it is hot, Osaka is not as hot as some other regions of Japan, such as Nagoya, during the summer.

There is a lot to see in Osaka. Osaka is the main center for tourist travel for that area of Japan. Many local and international tourists who want to visit surrounding areas in the Kansai region, such as Nara, will find it easy to get there via train or subway from Osaka.

In the past, many pilgrimages took place with Osaka as the center of travel to several other areas. Religious pilgrims were able to journey to many shrines and temples in Kansai, while using Osaka as a hub for their religious travel.

Many shrines in Osaka host festivals during the summer and tourists who travel Japanduring the summer will have an opportunity to experience this side of Japanese culture. In late June to late July, the Kumata Shrine, the Ikumata Shrine and the Shoman-in temple each host a summer festival. The Shoman-in temple begins the proceedings with women dressed in beautiful yukatabeing carried in palanquins. The Kumata Shrine features nine interesting floats which are pulled around Osaka city.

Tourists who enjoy the theatre can time their visit to Osaka for late July, when traditional Noh actors will take to the stage by torchlight outdoors, in the Nshinomaru Garden, with Osaka Castle in the background. Hideyoshi Toyotomi built the famous Osaka Castle in the 1500s. Osaka Castle is registered as a tangible cultural asset of Japan.

Summer tourists in Osaka will be able to see one of the three biggest water festivals in Japan, the Tenjin Matsuri Festival Boat Procession. There are many riverside attractions in Osaka and this is one of the most popular. The Tenjin Matsuri Festival Boat Procession is held over two days in late July. On the second day, visitors to Osaka will be able to see as many as 100 boats in procession on the Okawa River.

The attire looks like Genghis Khan Sharifa, after all south-east Asian countries share many such similarities. Thanks for the tips Sharifa. If I travel to Japan, will not miss these :)
