Tigris and Euphrates Rivers

Tigris river is known as “Dickle” in Turkish language and “Dilijah” in Arab language while Euphrates river is called as “Firat” in Turkey and “AL Furat” in Arab. Both the Tigris and Euphrates came from Turkey and meet in Al Ba’rah south-eastern portion of Iraq.

Tigris and Euphrates rivers where both sources for some Western Asian countries. This rivers has a great historical value as it contributes to the development of the Assyrian, Babylonian, And Sumerian civilizations.

The word Mesopotamia was taken from the Greek words which means ” in the middle of two rivers”, referring the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

Euphrates River
The Euphrates river was originated from south-western Turkey and passes through Syria and Iraq before flowing to the Persian Gulf. The river has a lenght of 2735 kilometers and an estimated of 887,000 liters of waters are flowing every second. It passes through Syria, near “Allepo” and flows through Iraq where the Tigris rivers flows in as near as 160 kilometers.
Tigris River
The length of Tigris river is 1,850 kilometers. It is shorter when compared to the Euphrates but the flow of water here is much stronger than the Euphrates. It is estimated that the water in r flows and reached for about 1.25 million liters per second. Tigris river originated from the mountainous part of Anatolia, in the south-eastern part of Turkey. The waters came from Lake Hazar and Van which meet in “Til”. It flows through the boarders of Turkey and Syria before it finally flows to Iraq.
