La Plata: Welcome to my City

Some information about Argentina.
La Plata is the capital city of Buenos Aires, which is the capital province of Argentina. It is located at 56km at the south-east of the city of Buenos Aires. It was founded by Dardo Rocha, who was the province governor, in 1882. For 2001, in La Plata lived 694,253 inhabitants.

Sports play an essential role in this city, in which there are two football teams:
Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, which is one of the oldest clubs in America,
and Estudiantes de La Plata, which is known for its international titles: four times champion of America, and also Champion of the World, in 1968. This fact is remembered by much people, because Estudiantes beat Manchester United in the Old Trafford, for the final of the World Cup.

Also, Culture is one of the pilars of La Plata: There is a large amount of theatres, cinemas, museums, libraries and universities.
Universidad de La Plata is one of the best universities of Argentina, while the Museum of La Plata is the biggest and most known of America, because it houses 3 million fossils and relics, and also, a 58,000-volume library.

The Transport system consists in 24 bus lines, which connect La Plata with other cities located in Buenos Aires, and the “Roca” Railway, which links this city with Buenos Aires and other important provinces, like Cordoba and Santa Fe.

La Plata is also known for its design: It has the shape of a square, and all streets are on a rectangular grid. Every six blocks, there is a square or a park, which have lots of linden trees. Because of that, the city is called “The City of Tilia”. Also, it is nicknamed “The city of Diagonals”, because there are great diagonals that crosses through the city.

In La Plata is located the “Kids Republic”, in which Walt Disney inspired to design Disneyland. It is visited daily by thousand of children from every part of Argentina.

Kids Republic has lots of atractions: from every kind of park games, to buildings that represent the usual institutions of every cities: parlament, church, bridges, theatres, hotels, etc.

In the center of La Plata, is located the Moreno Square, where is between the Municipality and the Cathedral. Both are beautiful buildings, and are visited by hundreds of people every day.
