Patagonia: A Masterpiece of God

Patagonia is one of the harbingers of paradise on Earth.

Patagonia is a paradise-like geographical region located in the southern most part of South America. Its breathtaking wonders are shared by Argentina and Chile, comprising the larger part of the world-renowned Andes Mountains that snake through the lengthy pacific coast of South America. One’s itinerary for world travel is certainly incomplete without having included this wonderful and enchanting place on Earth. It is a masterpiece of God, and some of the grandeurs of this heaven on Earth are staged under.

Pehoe Lake

Pehoe Lake is an inland body of water situated within the Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Chile. It is feed mainly by the Paine River whose pristine waters emerge from the nearby Salto Grande Waterfall, while some outlet source is also giving a good contribution to the waters of this ravishing body of water that looks more glorious at the sight of the imposing mountains at the background. Augmenting its Eden-likeness is the lush surrounding presence of the flora and fauna native to Chile.

Coihaique

Coihaique is the capital city of the Aisen region of Chile , a once hard-to-reach region for which urban Chile has had little interest until the opening of the Carretera Austral. Eventually its unique and beautiful natural setting began to attract attention. Today, Coihaique has become one of the well-visited regions of Patagonia, as it parades many beautiful and spectacular sceneries to wonder upon. The mountains which may remain snow-capped all year round and the now renowned Simpson and Coihaique Rivers add to Coihaique’s natural grandeurs and surrounds the region, creating one of the most fascinating sights on the planet.

Lake Nahuel Huapi

Lake Nahuel Huapi  is one of the most breathtaking lake to behold in Argentina. It is located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, the first in this huge South American country. The islands of varying sizes dot the lake; one of which is over 30 square kilometer in area. Of the many interests that this deep-blue body of water harbors is its being a habitat of several species of trout, including rainbow trout, brook trout, and brown trout. Strangely enough as it is remote and more than 2000 ft above sea level, the Kelp Gull and Blue Eyed Cormorant also found this lake a home. However, Lake Huapi is known however known for its being beautiful and treacherous as its crystal clear waters is prone to climate changes. It is primarily due to its having an average temperature that fluctuates around 7 ºC. Kayaking is popular to visitors from the world over.

La Trochita

La Trochita, known in English as the old Patagonian Express is a narrow gauge railway in Argentina using the now almost defunct steam locomotives. La Trochita which means ” The Little Narrow Gauge” runs and traverses through the foothills of the Andes Mountains, extending as far as 402 kilometers. Largely unchanged in features, the railway still operates for heritage purposes and became internationally famous when it was featured in the Old Patagonian Express, a book published in 1978 by Paul Terox who aptly named it the “railway almost at the end of the world”.

Bariloque or San Carlos de Bariloque is a city in the province of Rio Negro, Argentina, and being surrounded by mountains and spectacular rivers, it has become one of the centers of tourism in South America.  Some famous activities that tourists can fully enjoy are skiing, sight-seeing, water sports and climbing.  Sun-bathers can have their full enjoyment during the summer at the beautiful beaches such as Playa Bonita and Villa Tacul. And despite the cold waters of the lakes, many brave lake swimmers choose to enjoy swimming through the lakes that averages only 14 º C during the summer. This city which is famous for chocolates, also presents the fishing season as another great attraction. All in all, Bariloque serves as the base for many excursions in this highly inviting region.

Rio Negro

Rio Negro is one of the provinces of Argentina – situated in the Northern part of Patagonia – that harbors many sceneries and tourists attractions that truly offer an extremely gratifying travel experience.  Shown above is one of the long rivers that Rio Negro is naturally endowed and where people enjoy swimming during the relatively hot summer. In addition, grand mountain sceneries such as the Cerro Catedral ski is widely considered the biggest in all of South America and is the favorite of visitors from all over the world, tourists from North America in particular.  Located near the Atlantic coast, many beautiful and tranquil beaches as well, are scattered across the province. In addition, the presence of world-class natural lakes completes Rio Negro into becoming one of the most glorious and grand natural architectures that the world has to offer.

It seems that the idea of paradise is fictional in most minds, particularly to those who were born and raised in the highly urbanized world. But paradise isn’t really a dream. It is found numerously in various parts of the world. Patagonia is arguably one of them. Save those who already have a fat bag in the bank, all we have to do if we desire as to how  joyful it is and gratifying to have ourselves plunged into a paradise-like experience is to exert a little more effort so we can afford to travel the world.

I lived for five years in the Southern part of Peru, very close to Chile, and not even thought that such wonderful spectacles of nature might be so near. Thank you for the information and the pictures. They are really amazing!
