The jewel of the Caribbean is Aruba. At 32 kilometers long, Aruba is an island which is part of Lesser Antilles. The Spaniards originally discovered the island. Later on, the Dutch captured Aruba and then it became part of Kingdom of Netherlands under Queen Beatrix.

Aruba gained its independence during 1986 and now has a system of government that is democratic parliamentary. Aruba’s population is just above 100,00 and they speak both Papiamento and Dutch. Portugal has influenced their language too, and most of this island’s inhabitants can trace their origins to the Spaniards, Netherlands or the people of the indigenous Arawak.

Some industries in Aruba are mining gold, agriculture and oil processing. But with Aruba vacations getting very popular with the Americans, Europeans and Canadians, tourism is now a booming industry. Aruba vacations are common among honeymooners. The international airport named after Queen Beatrix has many flights to cities in the USA. Flights from Europe are connected via the Netherlands.

The sunny climate is what tourists love most in their Aruba vacation. It is proud of its 82 degree Fahrenheit temperature. Rainfall is rare and does not last long along the white sands of the beach. There are more sheltered beaches on the south and west coast. Rock formations abound in Aruba, and this is great for those interested in geology. Various types of cacti will also interest those who love plants. The capital is Orangestad and this is where the airport is located. January to February are great months to plan an Aruba vacation, because this is when the carnival and a grand parade take place.

The Aruban residents are welcoming and friendly. Proof of this is the handshake that is included in the official Aruban crest. US also greatly influened Aruba, owing to the huge throngs of American visitors yearly.

An Aruba vacation could be perfect for those who love the beach and those who are fond of water sports like wind surfing. The countryside of Aruba has two primary hills but the general area is widely flat at very arid.

Aruba’s living standard is considered the finest in Carribean. There is minimal hardship and unemployment is almost zero. The economy primarily runs through the Aruban Florin and has a subsidy from the goverment of Netherlands. A huge part of Aruba is Protestant like the Netherlands, but its population is predominantly Roman Catholic. Various countries gave their influences to the Aruba we know today which has a very cosmopolitan culture. Therefore, Aruba vacation is great if you want to leave reality behind and just watch the ocean with a cool drink in hand.
