TIWANAKU, an archaeological site located in Bolivia.

A fascinating destination in Bolivia is TIWANAKU, an archaeological site located 72 Km. from the city of La Paz. This culture probably began at between 1500 and 1400 B.C. (although some archaeologists have suggested it to be over 10 000 years old), and which collapsed at around the year 1100 to 1200 A.D. Due to its age, some specialists have proposed that Tiwanaku was the cultural mother of the American civilizations.  It is made up of seven important architectural constructions: Kalasasaya (126 by 117 meters), the interior of which is the famous Door of the Sun, a semi-underground pavilion with enigmatic heads and the remains of the Pyramids of Akapana (Kantataita, Putuni and Kericala), Kantatallita and Puma Punku. This archaeological site contains some of the oldest remains of the Andean cultures and is characterized by its magnificent monumental expression and perfection in construction and ornamental techniques.
