The Caribbean Islands have much to offer for everyone, from the most tranquil sparkling white sands and crystal clear water of the Caribbean beaches to the most incredible night life.
The popular styles of music of the Caribbean are reggae, calypso and pan music. Pan music, also known as steel pan music is made by using steel tins or drums which make incredibly lovely sounds.
There are only two seasons in the Caribbean. The dry season lasts from December to May and it is very hot and breezy. From June to November is the rainy or hurricane season.
At this time, a number of storms and hurricanes develop near the West African coast and make their way across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean.
Food in the Caribbean is based on African, Spanish and East Indian, but there are cuisines from the rest of the world. Spices, peppers and many different types of herbs are used to prepare delicious meals.
Popular dishes are chicken, fried flying fish, seafood which is prepared in many different ways, and stewed peas and beans. And Callaloo soup, which is made of dasheen leaves, okra and crabs, is eaten with rice.

Flora and fauna are in abundance and of a wide variety. Dry and moist forests, savannas and mangrove swamps cover most of the land that is not used by the natives for living on. Many beautiful flowers make their home here. Fruit trees can also be found; mango, papaya, watermelon, orange, guava, pineapple, tamarind and banana.

The main festival throughout the Caribbean isles is the Carnival. This explosion of colour, energy and fun takes place in Dominican Republic, Antigua, Jamaica and Barbados. This festival varies depending on the different island traditions, but one thing remains the same, the really lovely colourful costumes and the fun.
