Coffee Growing in Brazil

In South America most people live in big ports close to the sea. Such ports are Caracas in the north and Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires on the east coast.
We drink coffee every day. That Coffee seeds is growing in Brazil.
In the southern part of the Brazilian Highlands it is warm and much rain falls.
Coffee grows well and is the main crop of this sea area. Brazil sells most coffee in the world. It is grown on large estates called Fazendas. The bushes grow to a height of about two meters. When they are five years old, coffee Berries come out. The berries look like red cherries. Inside each berry are two seeds called Beans. The ripe fruit is picked and crushed. The beans are taken out and dried in the sun. They are then put into bags and sold mainly to USA and Europe. The beans are then roasted and crushed to make coffee.

South America is also a large continent. It is broad in the north and narrow in the south. The Andes Mountains lie along the west coast. They are very high like the Himalayas. To the east are the Brazilian highlands. They are not as high as the Andes. Between the Andes and the Brazilian Highlands lie the lowlands. The Amazon and many small rivers flow in this plain. The Amazon is one of the longest and broadest rivers of the word. The capital of Brazil is Brasilia.
