Traveling to Ocho Rios? There are beautiful places to explore.
We did a lot of research on the various cruise review websites and ended up booking our own tour guide in Ocho Rios. He took us where we wanted to go and explained his culture as well as sang to us. It was one of the best ports we visited.
1. Dunn’s River Falls and Beach are Ocho Rios most famous and popular visitor attractions.
If you can get here early you will miss the crowds. Walk down the boardwalk to the beach, bypassing the guides. You can climb the falls by yourself regardless what the people along the way tell you. You don’t have to hold hands with anyone and you can climb at your own speed. Make sure and wear water shoes or you will have to rent them at the Falls. Once on the beach take a moment to look at the beautiful surroundings before you start your climb. The falls are scrubbed everyday to ensure good climbing.
Waterfalls greet you along the way and little pools formed naturally in the rocks make your climb refreshing and enjoyable. Take your time and enjoy the view. Make sure and take pictures along the way!
If you don’t feel up to the climb, lounge at the beach or watch from various lookout points along the stairs.
Once you reach the top you can exit through the entrance (the exit will take you through VERY aggressive shops) or go back down and spend time on the beach.
2. Take a scenic drive through Fern Gully Rainforest.
There are more than 300 ferns along the 3 mile route. The drive is beautiful, green and lush. There are vendors along the way who are selling local fruit and candy. We tried a local candy made with coconut. Delicious!
3. Caribbean Sea is a gorgeous spot to snorkel, scuba dive and enjoy the beaches.
Our tour guide arranged for us to ride horses. We rode the horses through town and down to the beach. Then we rode out into the ocean!
Jamaica is a beautiful island! Enjoy, mon!
