Mexico City Fabled Metropolis in the Clouds

Introduction to Mexico City.

Mexico is one of the most beautiful and sophisticated cities in the world, fascinating and exciting even to travelers who have been every where and seen everything.

The city was founded in 1235 by the Aztec Indians on an island complex known as Tenochtitlan in Lake Texcoco.

When Cortes arrived in 1519, he was overwhelmed by the sight of interlocking islands, with Venice like canals; stone cement buildings, broad avenues, huge markets, awesome temples. The island metropolis was joined to the mainland by stone causeways wide enough for 12 horsemen to ride abreast, and defended by drawbridges.

Today the influence of the Spanish and the French who came later, together with the colorful and vigorous Indian heritage, are all blended with ultra-modern design into a mosaic of three cultures that makes contemporary Mexico City  a unique experience for tourists .You will find the old and new ,the simple and complex side by side in often bewildering but always stimulating contrast.
