Travel tips in Peru.

- Bring toilet paper with you wherever you go.
- Taxis should cost only 2 soles during the day and 3 soles after 10:00.
- Check out prices at a few stores before you buy your souvenirs.
- Bring layers with you. The temperature changes greatly at night.
- Bakeries have safe, great tasting, and cheap food.
- Don’t drink the water or eat fruits or vegetables washed in the water.
- Wash hands frequently and efficiently.
- Place sunscreen and other lotions/gels in a bag since they may explode in the altitude.
- Always be wary of sunscreen when climbing mountains in cars. (The sunscreen may explode in the heat/increase of altitude.)
- Do not eat food off the street.
- Read your guidebook. It includes tips, popular places, restaurants, hostels, and activities in the Cusco Area.
- Have landmarks on the surrounding mountains. These landmarks will help you know the general direction you need to go for your destination.
- Be weary of pickpockets, especially during festivals.
- Put your wallet in your front pocket or wear a money belt.
- People dressed in traditional wardrobe and have a llama or donkeys will ask for a tip for a photograph of them. (Little children may ask for a tip also.)
- There are many stray dogs in Cusco. If you are uncomfortable act like you are going to pick up a rock on the ground and they will go away.
- Put your liquids in your carry-on.
- Speak Spanish in the cab or it is likely you pay more.
- Bring a warm coat because the nights are freezing. Many members bought a winter coat in Cusco because it was so cold.
