The city was founded in the 9th century after the building of Prague castle by the Premyslid family around 850 A.D The city’s native name is “Praha” which is the modern word “Prah” meaning threshold because of the fact that the city lies between the Slavic and German realms. Prague’s beginning is some what of a mythological one having to do with a wholly women named Libuse that realized her people could no longer tolerate a female leader so she married a ploughman named Premysl. Then she persuaded him to go to the Vltava river to found a city along its banks. It’s a bit of a fairytale love story between the two, a princess and a peasant. Premysl was a peasant from the village Stadice who attracted the attention of a daughter of a Krok that reigned over part of Bohemia. After being married to Libuse he became a prince of Bohemia.
