Odense, Home of Hans Christian Anderson

Odense is Denmark’s third largest city and it is located at the very heart of the country. Odense city is the capital of the island of Funen, which is linked to the mainland of Denmark by a rail and road bridge. It is also the birthplace of the world famous children’s fairytale writer Hans Christian Andersen.
More than a thousand years old, Odense is an absolutely beautiful and vibrant city that is full of wide open spaces. Odense city has a relaxed, leisurely atmosphere about it and the incredible wealth of musical and cultural attractions all make Odense an ideal place for a vacation.
There are many pedestrian only streets, where leisurely walks will take you through open squares and alleyways which lead to the museums, numerous cafes, restaurants with worldwide cuisine and the shopping malls.
Also in Odense there are an enormous amount of cycle paths that are provided to make it very easy for citizens and biking tourists to freely get around this most beautiful city.
And if you have not brought a bicycle with you, just pick one up from the many bicycle pools that are located across this helpful city and then enjoy a really memorable ride and when you are finished just put your bicycle back into another cycle pool for the next person to use.

Inside the museum that is totally dedicated to him you will discover the enthralling story of his amazing life, from the early beginnings when he was born the son of a poor shoemaker to the moment that he became the world’s most famous writer of children’s fairytales.
The whole area of the museum is an authentic replica of how the original village layout looked at the time when Hans Christian Andersen lived in Odense. It is made up of many quaint colourful little houses as well as book and craft stores.
