Gavarnie Falls is a beautiful natural wonder of nature located in the Pyrenees Mountains in Southern France.

Gavarnie Falls is the tallest waterfall in France and and one of the most magnificent and grandest waterfalls in Europe and the world. Located in Southern France in the Pyrenees Mountains Gavarnie Falls is part of the Cirque de Gavarnie which is a natural amphitheatre that was created at the head of a Pyrenees glacier by erosion.

The Cirque de Gavarnie is up to 2,600 feet in height and almost 10,000 feet wide at the top.
There are a number of waterfalls that prettily drop into the Cirque de Gavarnie and Gavarnie Falls is the largest, tallest and most famous of these.

Gavarnie Falls drops some 1,384 total feet magnificently in tiers with the largest single drop being some 922 feet. The water below the falls is reportedly used for hydro-electric purposes.

In 1997 the Cirque de Gavarnie area was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Gavarnie Falls and the Cirque de Gavarnie area is visited by over 1 million tourists and hikers annually. The area is located in the French Pyrenees right near the border with Spain so many of the tourists probably come from both countries.
