Hotel De Crillon:Luxury in a Parisian Palace

The prestigious Hôtel de Crillon is on the famous “Place de la Concorde”, where the guillotine was installed during the French Revolution, and where the Champs-Elysées begins.

Marie-Antoinette used to take piano lessons in this “Hôtel Particulier” overlooking the “Place de la Concorde” in Paris. This is here that years later the Queen will be guillotined.

In 1758, Louis XV entrusted Jacques-Ange Gabriel , the greatest architect of the Kingdom of France, with the construction of two façades on the square. Two identical buildings were built to house offical services. Only the East building is still used today by the French Navy Headquarters. The West building was used to welcome ambassadors. It was bought by French politician François Félix de Crillon who gave his name to the palace. Since then, many VIPs stayed at the Hôtel de Crillon, one of the oldest and most prestigious palaces in Paris (see my article: “Luxury Hotels in Paris : The Ritz”): the Emperor of Iran, Emperor Hiro Hito of Japan, King George V of England, King Juan Carlos and the Queen of Spain, Presidents Hoover, Roosevelt and Nixon of the United States. The luxury hotel offers three presidential suites with an astonishing view on the marvellous “Place de la Concorde” from the third floor. The most prestigious suites are located on the fifth floor: the “Suite Bernstein”, the “Suite Louis XV”and the “Grande Suite Bernstein”. Key moments of international diplomacy took place here such as the creation of the Society of Nations in 1919. In all 147 rooms are available, all with elegant and luxurious decoration, furniture, amenities and details, in the spirit of the “Grand Siècle”. The gastronomic restaurant “Les Ambassadeurs” received many awards and counts thirty cooks. The other two restaurants, the less formal “L’Obélisque” decorated by Sonya Rykiel and “Le Jardin d’Hiver” are also prestigious, a bar can be found as well as a patio in the Summer season.

The U.S. Embassy is two steps away from the palace and the “Rue Saint-Honoré” with namely the world-famous Hermès boutique is only within a few minutes walk.
