Germany

A short piece of travel writing about my holiday in Germany. This also includes something about German culture and the country itself.
It was during the summer holiday when we decided that we’re going to Germany. The airline we used was LTU, it’s a German airline. It was a good flight. The movie were great and the food was alright. I was really looking forward to going to Germany. When we finally got off the plane I felt like I was home. It was so different hearing so many German voices around me. At the airport my grandfather was waiting to pick us up. It was great to see him again.
He took us to his house. The house was three stories high. The house belonged to him, he rented the second floor to another family, the ground floor and basement belonged to him and the top floor was ours.
The first thing we did was have some lunch, then he gave us the key to the top floor and switched on the electricity. When we went inside, there was a weird smell in the air, not a bad one but weird. It was really hot because the windows and doors weren’t opened for a whole year. We opened all the windows and within a few minutes the whole flat was at around a nice 25 degrees Celsius.
Then we went shopping because there was absolutely nothing in our fridge. We got there by my grandfathers car. After we went shopping we went to rent a car. Both my parents have a driving licence in Germany so it was worth it. We got an Audi convertible. Nearly always we had the roof open because it was nice and cool outside. There was another great thing about it, some parts of the highway in Germany don’t have speed limits!
The streets in Germany were so different from the ones in Thailand. The pavements were about 3 meters wide, and one meter of the three was a bike lane. In the first week or two we NEVER got stuck in traffic! We didn’t always go by car, there was a train system nearly everywhere so sometimes we took the train instead.
The weather was always great. It was never too cold and never too hot, somewhere around 24 degrees Celsius. It only rained once or twice and there was always a fresh summer breeze.
The main meat consumed in Germany is beef, pork and poultry, the most popular being pork. Germany is well know for its sausages and beer, but things like pretzels also come from Germany. Wherever you go, you will always find a pretzel, sausage and beer stand. For dinner German people eat bread, for lunch something warm and for breakfast mainly muesli and bread.
