Visit Dublin, Ireland’s Beautiful Capital City

Ireland is a country that has gone from strength to strength in the past twenty years and Dublin, its capital, shows all the signs of its burgeoning prosperity.
The city is a constant bustle of tourists and locals alike but it still retains a friendly, small-town atmosphere and ambience. With its ancient history, beautiful architecture, plethora of fine pubs and restaurants, and host of high fashion department stores, Dublin offers something for everyone.
The formidable architecture and pleasant grounds of Trinity College are a sight not to be missed but the most impressive thing about this university is that it is home to the famous Book of Kells, the copy of the four gospels which was ornately decorated by monks during the ninth century. Other notable and historic buildings are the G.P.O. on O’Connell Street, sight of the 1916 rising, Christ Church Cathedral, built in the thirteenth century, and the beautiful Dublin Castle, to name but a few.
If history and architecture are not your bag you can still enjoy your stay in Dublin by shopping in the centre of the city. Its many shopping centres are within easy walking distance of each other and boast such famous department stores as Brown-Thomas, Switzer’s, and Fortnum and Mason. Most major high street stores are also situated in the city and, while the euro is the country’s official currency, many shops will accept sterling in the form of Northern Irish, English, and Scottish pound notes and coins.
A good way to wind down in the evening is to visit one of Dublin’s many watering holes. Temple Bar is the place to be if you are looking for night life and this trendy area is where the young and beautiful hang out. The wide variety of great restaurants will ensure you eat well and the pubs will provide Ireland’s famous ‘ceol agus craic’ – music and fun – which the Irish enjoy in great abundance. While there is a thriving, modern night club scene there is also a plethora of places to listen to traditional Irish music and to watch, and even participate in the now world-famous Irish dancing.
So, whether your interest lies in history, architecture, shopping, or society, you will not be disappointed by a visit to Ireland, and to Dublin, it’s unusual capital city. Travel around the city is easy as, apart from the fact that most places are within walking distance of the city centre, there is a multitude of travel options including the frequent bus service, trains, trams, the D.A.R.T. (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) and ever present taxis. Buy a tour ticket and be guided round the cities landmarks in comfort, or opt for a ‘hop on, hop off’ ticket and browse the city at your leisure. Whichever way you choose, you will not be disappointed with your experience in this magical and mystical city.
