Many of these parties, begin before Lent. The forty days that Christians set aside to pray and fast in preparation of Easter which is the rising of the Son of God Jesus Christ.
Venice began their Carnival tradition in the 18th century that over time grew into a major event that is now celebrated through Europe. Over time and through the ages, the soon gave away to smaller gathering, and eventually became just another day, until the Venetians began to things rolling again.
It was during the 1980’s that these people of Italy decided to get back into the swing of things and renewed the spirit of this carnival. It begins usually 11 days before Ash Wednesday, where people come with beautiful costumes, masks, along with beautiful facial art, and the party continues on, until the peak of the Carnival, which is the night before Ash Wednesday. It is as if all the people of the country get out there where the most lavished costumes and crowd the streets and square of Venice Italy.
It is a night for all to remember, and for many of the older Italians, they love seeing the youth of their country bring back traditions that were long lost. This is one tradition that many Italians from other countries, go back home to visit and have an over all fantastic time. It is a carnival for anyone who is thinking about visiting Italy should consider attending. The preparations start approximately two weeks before Ash Wednesday, usual during February or March, so if your thinking about going to Italy, that is one of many Carnival you should consider attending.

My mother lives in Italy and I visit every year. The Italians are great ones for carnivals and festivals. There is always something going on in her home town. I haven’t heard of this particular one though. A good article.
