There are millions of different ways to spend your money during a vacation in Rome, Italy. But, there is only one way to really get to know this truly beautiful city and his history.
Many people love to call Rome the Eternal City. This is because it has been the capital city from it’s founding to this day. That means that Rome has over 2000 years of history. And this history is what you should see during your vacation in Rome.
Piazza del Campidoglio
The Piazza del Campidoglio was designed by Renaissance artist and architect Michelangelo, back in 1568. Piazza del Campidoglio is actually a square. This is a must see during your vacation in Rome. Just make sure that you visit Piazza del Campidoglio during night. Excellent lightnings give it a unique and magic look.
A keyhole view at the entrance gate to the Military order of the Knights of Malta
This is something really special. You can actually look at three lands – Malta, Italy and The Vatican, all at once. You can even see the Cupola of St Peters. How much cooler can it get? Three states all through a keyhole; it’s something only astronauts have the privilege to see. Off course, you will have the same privilege during your vacation in Rome.
The Mouth of the Truth
Don’t go there if you are a pathological liar! According to the myth, The Mouth of the Truth will slam shut over a liar’s hand. No one wants to come home from their vacation in Rome without one hand. Never the less, you’ll find The Mouth of the Truth in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome.
The Mouth of the Truth is actually an image, carved from marble, of a man-like face. It became popular as a tourist attraction its appearance in the 1953 film Roman Holiday, staring Audrey Hepburn and George Peck.
Janiculum
As with many attractions in Rome, its best if you see Janiculum in night. It’s actually a hill in western Rome. Janiculum is a must see during your vacation in Rome. From this hill you can have some of the best views of Rome and its innumerable domes and bell towers.
Campo dei Fiori
Italians love churches. There’s no doubt about that. And you can find a church in any square at Rome; except at Campo dei Fiori. Translated from Italian it means “field of flowers.” Make sure you visit this square during your vacation in Rome. In Campo dei Fiori you will see a market that is open every morning. You can buy almost anything over here, from flowers and spices to football jerseys and jeans.
The Pantheon
The Pantheon was originally built as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome. This is a must see! It’s one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in all of Rome. So, make sure you visit it during your vacation in Rome.

I took this tour with my mother and father. We were very impressed at the information our tour guide provided on the history of the Rome. The best part is Piazza del Campidoglio.
