The National Lifeboat Museum

Our day at the Lifeboat Museum.

Last Saturday, we went to this museum. Because my son, 3 years old, likes to see any kind of ship. So, we took him to the “Reddings Museum” (in Dutch). In here, there is a lot of information and the history  of rescuing people. It’s not just historical texts and scale models, there are  original lifeboats, paintings, life-saving equipment and old films. There is one modern computer simulation of a lifeboat in a storm at sea example: you stand at the deck of your boat/ships and then you could feel how  the boat reacts to the storm blowing against your boat or ship and there are 3 cabins where you can see an informative movie (every cabin has it‘s own movie) about rescue at sea and the hardships people have to endure to survive.

In this museum, you can make booking to celebrate your child’s birthday. I think it would be fun and exciting for children and friends. At the same time, they can learn more about rescuers and lifeboats. There are a lot of things that you can learn, example: how to send Morse code how to make different knots with rope and there a lot more.

Although my son still doesn’t understand much about the museum itself, he had fun while we were there. At the end of our visit, we took a 20 minutes boat trip, The captain gave some explanation about the boat we were in and about the surroundings where we were sailing. My son really enjoyed going on the boat trip.
