If you are looking for a really fantastic adventure that will culminate in a stay at a wonderful luxury hotel, then this is the vacation for you. You will be presented with amazing scenery, rolling hills, deep valleys and the narrowest dirt paths that you could possibly imagine. As you twist and turn in your jeep trying to read the survey map and at the same time try and stay on the road you will feel your heart and pulse rate increase as the excitement and adrenalin flow through you.
To plan a visit to this most beautiful breathtaking area of Portugal it is best recommended that you fly into Porto airport in the north of Portugal and hire a quality jeep that will be used for all of the epic journey which you are going to undertake to the Douro Valley.

By the way, Porto is an incredibly wonderful city with many suspension bridges over wide picturesque rivers and long narrow winding paths and steps that take you here and there across the city.
So, think about touring Porto and its neighbouring town of Vila Nova da Guia, both of which are famous for their unique production of Port that is exclusive to Portugal, before you set off on your adventurous journey.
And now your adventure begins, the only directions that I can give you are to study very closely the survey map that you will have purchased, identify what you believe to be the most direct route to the Douro Valley.
Then use your driver ability and natural survival instincts to keep you on the right path. Take plenty of food and water with you as the opportunity to find eating houses and watering holes is rare.
Your whole journey will be full of incredible excitement and breathtaking scenery as you progress eastwards across Portugal. Once you arrive in the Douro Valley area, pay close attention to where you will now need to go to get to the town of Pinhao.
When I did it the whole journey took about eight hours, so leave yourself at least that amount of time to get to your destination, which is of course the Vintage House hotel in Pinhao.
Otherwise you will be sleeping in the jeep and if you think this might be possible take a pullover; it can sometimes get a little bit cooler at night and some suitable bedding material so that you have some comfort.
On your arrival in Pinhao you will see the Vintage House hotel on the left, just over the little bridge that enters the town. The entrance to the Vintage House is marked clearly and so is the car parking area.

Park the car, check in and make your way to the hotels swimming pool, it will be really refreshing for you after such a long journey. Don’t worry about drinks they will bring them to you.
After your refreshing swim get yourselves prepared for the absolutely wonderful cuisine that they serve at the hotel’s restaurant, along with a glass or two of excellent Portuguese wine.
You really deserve to relax a bit after your adventurous journey so treat yourself to the luxury of a glass of vintage Port, accompanied by a great cigar, if you wish, in splendid leather bound chairs.

This is really true adventuring, when your final destination gives you the reward that you deserve for your efforts. Enjoy!
