Karlskrona

Karlskrona is a small southern port city of Sweden. It is located in Blekinge province of Sweden. The city coordinates are 56°11′N 15°39′E. It is famous for the presence of a church called the ‘Church of Holy Trinity’, built by Germans around 16th century A.D. It is located in the heart of the city (Centrum). 

Karlskrona means Karl’s Crown. The city was named after the name of King Karl XI of Sweden. 

Karlskrona is also famous for the presence of renowned BTH University (Blekinge Tekniska Hogskolan/Blekinge Institute of Technology). Since education was free in Sweden, many students around the world come to join BTH University in pursuit of better future. BTH University gives ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits for its students. ECTS is a standard for comparing students performance across European Union (EU) territory.

When you arrive Karlskrona for the first time, you can either stay with your friends or you can check in a hotel, till you get accomodation. If, staying in a hotel is expensive for you then you can stay in STF Youth Hostel. It is in Trossö. If you are new to the city then you need to go to respective house leasing society office and enquire about available apartments for renting. Otherwise, if you are already registered at local tax office (Skatteverket) in Karlskrona then you need to visit their respective housing website and get registered for an available apartment using your P – Number. P – Number can be obtained from Skatteverket office (But you need a permanent Swedish address for this).After you lease an apartment, you have to pay for electricity every month to Affärsverken. All apartments usually provide both hot and cold water, room heating, Cable TV connection, and usage of washing machines at laundry room for free. Only some apartments provide you free broadband connection. If you have this facility then you are lucky. Otherwise, you have to connect to broadband using Tele 2 broadband network or some other Telephone broadband network.Once you are interested in an apartment, you have to sign a contract. After this, the apartment belongs to you. You can register this apartment address as your new address in Sweden by filling and submitting a form in local tax office, Karlskrona. Local tax office (Skatteverket) is located beside Karlskronahem office in Karlskrona. After signing contract, you will be given two or three sets of keys for the apartment. If you lose any then you need to pay for it. Do not allow more than specified number of people into your apartment. Doing this, you would be violating the terms of the contract and you would have to vacate your apartment. Every month you have to pay house rent, electricity bill, and broadband bill.
