AN HOTEL IN ROBIN HOOD COUNTRY. THE Clumber Park Hotel and Spa, near Ollerton is at Sherwood in Robin Hood Country and next to the National Trust Property of Clumber Park. It reopened following a £2.5m refurbishment and the spa now has a 12m indoor pool, hot tub spa, Elemis treatment rooms and a gym. The rooms are all modern, clean, large and comfortably furnish and come complete with flatscreen TVs. Many of them overlook the new Courtyard garden, which is very impressive. A range of classic meals and pasta is available in the Brasserie and smoked salmon with French toast makes a very acceptable breakfast. The Courtyard restaurant offers an excellent Parma ham and Roquefort salad that can be followed by a beef comfit with homemade chips and a pepper sauce. Equally good is the black pudding risotto with pigeon breast before trying the spiced shoulder of lamb with butternut squash mash. There is a magnificent cheese board to round off any meal. Guests have the free use of mountain bikes to explore the surrounding area, which includes over 20 miles of safe cycling routes that go through picturesque estate villages and forest, over heartland and past lakes.
