A Restaurant at the Racecourse

A review of the Plate 1882 restaurant near Newcastle Racecourse.
The Plate 1882 Restaurant in the Marriot Hotel, Newcastle upon Tyne is near the racecourse. It is a traditional that is well laid-out and tranquil. Serving British and Mediterranean cuisine, it offers a very professional welcome. It has a caramel, red and gold themed decor with a stunningly lit wine bottle wall near the entrance. A favourite starter is the seared mackerel with braised lentils and a rhubarb and ginger dressing.
Equally popular is the asparagus soup with wild mushrooms. The Trojan Horse is the restaurant’s name for the roast of day. The turkey crown is a plate of meat, sausages wrapped in bacon, cranberry puree encased in stuffing and creamed potatoes served with a side dish of cauliflower, beans, mangetout, turnip and broccoli. Slow roast belly pork with cabbage, black pudding and cheesy potatoes is very popular. A sherry trifle with layers of fruity jelly and cream topped with biscuits and grated chocolate makes a very acceptable dessert as does thee chocolate and marmalade bread and butter pudding that is served with a light custard and whisky flavoured ice cream. The Plate 1882 is open from 18:20 to 22:00 on Mondays to Saturdays and it can be contacted on 0191 236 4111. It has a large car park and is fully accessible to disabled diners.
