A guide to Cadbury’s World Visitor Centre.
MY wife loves chocolate and I recently discovered the perfect treat for her in a visit to Cadbury’s World in Birmingham. She agreed that this was every woman’s dream trip. The visit, including refreshments and shopping time, takes about three hours.
It begins with the Story of Chocolate from its first cultivation in around 600AD in Mexico. There are boardwalks and scenes that feature the Maya People. Visitors can meet Montezuma, Emperor of the Aztecs and the Conquistadors of Herman Cortes.
The Cadbury Story reveals the company’s tale and how chocolate is made in a cinema-style presentation. Flex6 the Robot brings the pack and wrap process to life while the Demonstration area shows the art of the chocolatie.
Youngsters will enjoy the play area where a kiosk sells ice cream and chocolate. Visitors can board the beanmobile and take a magical ride through an enchanted chocolate wonderland or savour the refreshments in Cadbury Café.
There is wheelchair access throughout the attraction, except for the packaging plant and Cadabra. Baby changing facilities are available and assistance dogs are admitted everywhere with the exception of the production areas. Audio guides can be hired in English, French, Japanese and Spanish.
Visitors can obtain birthday or chocolate plaques and the centre does gift vouchers. There are annual passports, which allow as many visits as possible for a whole year for a one off payment.
Purple Planet is an interactive zone that uses state of the art technology. Visitors are able to travel back in time at Essence and a new Bournville Heritage Centre has been opened.
Cadbury World is on Linden Road in the Bournville district of Birmingham. There is a booking line available on 08454 503 599.
