A review of the Beadnell House Complex in Northumberland.
CASTLES AND COASTLINES.
I have always considered the Northumbrian coastal area to be one of the most beautiful places in the world. There are long beaches of clean fine sand, which are often deserted. Inland there are the picturesque historic villages and the many castles and other strongholds.
People can wander the beaches, dunes and clifftops with seeing another person. The headlands are dominated by Bamburgh and Lindisfarne Castles, both of which are still lived, and the majestic ruins of Warkworth and Dunstanburgh Castles. There are friendly villages in all the fishing villages.
Offshore lie the Farne Islands, now a nature reserve again as in the days of St Cuthbert. This was where Grace Darling rowed out to sea in 1838 to rescue the crew of the SS Forfarshire. Her tomb is in Bamburgh, which also has a museum dedicated to this young Victorian heroine.
The Holy Island of Lindisfarne has a tranquillity of its own, even when the Island is crowded.
Former hotel Beadnel House has been converted into a complex of high quality apartments. Guests receive a complementary welcome pack of essentials and some luxuries on arrival. Each apartment has two large parking places for cars.
Every apartment is equipped with TV, DVD player and a luxurious free standing bath.
Guests who wish to avoid cooking can eat in the Village Pantry or the Craster Arms and there are wonderful views all around.
Places to visit in the area include Alnwick Castle and Gardens and there are frequent boat trips to the Farne Islands from Seahouses.
Visitors to this region can almost hear the silence and yet the Northumbrian people, despite being reserved are among the friendliest and most welcoming in the world.
